Our God is an awesome God.
When we turn our backs on Him, when we sin against Him, when we disobey and offend Him greatly, He is always willing to forgive us. He is willing to forget and start right where we left of.
Deut. 4:15 warns us against idolatry. It is very clear that God does not wants us worshiping and praying to anything man made "which cannot see or hear or eat or smell" (vs.28). The idols of today are not only made of wood or stone. We have way more idols: work, family, health, wealth, friends, popularity, self-image, social status, etc. You name it. We would most likely turn it into an idol.
For that we deserve lonelines, to be destroyed, to be abandoned and live miserably. The Bible says "For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God" (vs.24). However, He loves us so much that He is always willing to forgive us. "But is from there you seek the Lord you God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul." (vs.29) I am a jealous person and I have learned that there are two kinds of jealousy: One that is out of selfishness and lack of trust that do not care at all what the other person really wants or says. The other is the one like our God's jealousy: He loves us so deeply and strongly that he wants us to love Him back the same way. He desires us greatly. However, everything He does is out of love for us and knowing what is best for us. Even when we walk away from him, he still watches over us. He still provides for our needs, He is always waiting for us to come back. He is always willing to forgive us. He does not want to lose us. The God almighty, King of kings, creator and owner of everything we see and don't see, does not want to lose not even one of us. He loves us SO much!!
Have you ever been in those embarrasing and depressing situations where everybody all of a sudden is ignoring you. Not necessarily on prupose. Yet, you find yourself eating a cookie by your self standing alone in a corner...and you are supposed to be the hostest!!! Well, we do that to Christ all the time...awkward!!. Now tell me if you wouldn't be jealous of all your friends! You love them and would love to be included in their lives and conversations. Or have them at least show you a little respect as the hostest of the party. Ok, that was lame, but it is just a picture to help you understand a little bit better how often we irgnore and hurt God. Yet, He doesn't change. His love for us never diminishes, not even a bit.
"For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the convenant with your forfathers, which he confirmed to them by oath." (vs. 31)
Don't forget to remember. He loves you. He is jealous. He will not abandon you.
