Do Not Forget The Lord

I read Deuteronomy  8.

This passage is about not forgeting who the Lord is, what He has done for his people and what disasters He allowed to happen as well. He is the source of all good.

He led them to and through the desert for forty years.
He caused them to hunger and then fed them with Manna - which noone knew from before.
He did not allow their clothes to wear out, nor their feet to swell.
He brought them into a new and wonderful land, full of streams of water, springs flowing in the hills and valleys, a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, olive oil and honey, a land where bread would not be scarce and they would lack nothing. (Deut: 8:4-9)

It is amazing how God was very careful to also include the "why" he gave us his law and decrees and every command. Through out the chapter we can read why we must obey and why He allows certain "disasters" to happen in our lives:

Vs1 "so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised..."
Vs2 "to humble you and test you in order to know what was in your heart",
Vs3 "...to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord."
Vs16 "...so that it may go well with you."

God knows what he is doing and what he is allowing in our lives.
Sometimes we only attribute the negative things to God. We blame him and forget that we had a lot more to do with it thanks to our free will. Our power to decide. Our desire to have it our way. However, nothing bad ever comes from God. He may allow some calamities and hurt in our lives but He is not the one causing it.

"Every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does NOT change like shifting." James 1:17 (emphasis added)

"{We} may say to {ourselves}: "My power and strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me". But remember the Lord you God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth," Deut. 8:17-18
God wants to bless us. But we must not forget that He is the source of every blessing. Not our own righteousness or ability to do good deeds. We must not forget that His thoughts are always of good, even when He allows trouble in our lives. Do NOT forget the Lord. He is God.

"In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Rom. 8:28

  1. Great post! I love how you say God knows what He is doing. So true! Why do we not believe that!?
